PHD &
Helpe Inc. Partner To Provide
Needed Solutions
To The U.S. Trucking
Industrys Greatest
Challenges:
Driver Recruitment, Retention and
Safety
Vancouver, British Columbia,
October 19, 2004--Precision
Human Development
(PHD)
is pleased to announce,
today, the signing of a strategic
partnership agreement
with Helpe Inc.
(Helpe),
a U.S.-based safety management
and consulting firm providing
risk management and loss
prevention services to the
transportation industry, and
trucking industry in particular.
A feature article on the trucking
industry in USA Today,
dated October 12, 2004, drew
attention to three critical
issues that are straining the
industry and, ultimately,
the United States economy. The
issues are driver
recruitment, retention and
safety. The trucking industry
is presently facing a severe
shortage of drivers. Industry
estimates suggest that thousands,
if not tens of
thousands of openings are going
unfilled. Compounding
this difficulty is data from the
American Trucking Association
showing that the driver turnover rate at large
trucking companies was 116% in
the second quarter
of 2004. Driver safety and costs
associated with
accidents and unsafe driving can
not only cripple trucking
firms, they place a burden on the
economy when such
costs are passed on to retailers
and other organizations
as well as consumers.
All of these issues present
serious impediments to the
productivity and efficiency of
the trucking industry and
the continued growth of the U.S.
economy.
Mark Zandi, chief economist at
Economy.com in West
Chester, PA, commented: If
we dont have enough
truckers, then the whole global
transportation system
bogs down and just makes life
difficult and less lucrative
for retailers and other
businesses.
Bob Costello, chief economist at
the American Trucking
Association notes that every
3% decline in trucking
productivity requires an
additional 60,000 trucks to haul
the same amount of freight.
PHD and Helpe Inc. have joined
forces as strategic
partners to provide
research-based and experience
tested solutions to these
critical challenges. Both firms
have, in the past, established
themselves as specialists
in solving one or more of these
problems. Helpe works
with some of the nations largest
motor carriers on the
implementation of driver safety
and management
programs. The company has
developed innovative driver
recruitment programs and deploys
proprietary
technology to assist
transportation companies with
safety
program management.
PHD is fast developing a
reputation as a leading provider
of customized, performance
management solutions to
the transportation industry and
HR industry in general.
Human Resource Executive
Magazine, in its March 2004
technology issue, identified PHD
technology as leading-edge
HR software.
PHDs
core, proprietary technology is
its Performance Benchmarking
System. This web-based
tool allows organizations to
hire, promote or develop
employees who will meet or exceed
customized, behavior-
based performance standards, or
benchmarks set by the
organization itself. The PHD
platform enables companies
to develop performance benchmarks
quickly and easily
through a largely automated, but
thoroughly objective,
mathematical process. The PHD
system and approach
has successfully helped a wide
variety of companies to
increase sales performance and
productivity by as much
as 67%, reduce employee turnover
by as much as 87%
as well as reduce driver
accidents and moving violations
for U.S. trucking firms by more
than 25% and 30%
respectively.
Mr. Jim Henderson, President of
Helpe, commented, As a provider of
transportation safety systems to
the
trucking industry that is always
looking for methods to
decrease accidents and driver
turnover, my clients and
I are excited about using a
proven technology to assist
them in the driver selection
process.
I have worked within the trucking
industry for the past 33
years and have had experience
with a company in the
past that used a service similar
to the one being offered
by PHD with great success. Having
seen these
techniques used successully led
me to PHD and their
unique program.
We, as well as our customers, are
hopeful that our hiring
efforts will be improved and that
only safe, careful,
competent drivers will be hired.
With the cost of hiring a
driver exceeding $10,000 per
driver, having a tool that
can accurately predict whether a
driver is a good fit for a
customers
particular operation is a real advantage to
us, the transportation industry
and the motoring public.
Mr. Jason M. Clark, Director of
Business Development
for PHD said, PHD
is especially pleased to be entering
into a partnership with Helpe
Inc. Both companies have
become expert at providing
specialized solutions to
some of the trucking
industrys
most pressing problems.
Bringing these solutions together
in partnership makes
perfect sense. The resulting
synergies have created
one of the most comprehensive and
specialized
solutions to each of the trucking
industrys
greatest
concerns.
