PHD Launches Industry-Unique, Online, Scientific Hiring System

Vancouver, British Columbia, July 18, 2002: Precision Human Development (“PHD”) is pleased to announce, today, the Internet launch of its proprietary Performance Benchmarking technology. Performance Benchmarking is a new, research-proven approach to hiring pioneered by PHD. It is an Internet-based, scientific employee selection system that can be used for a variety of purposes: e.g., pre-screening, confirmation, succession planning & continuous employee development. It is also particularly effective formanaging a variety of human capital concerns such as retention, performance and job satisfaction.

Among its most powerful features, it can:

  • give hiring managers the ability to hire applicants who closely match the top or ideal performers in any position (i.e., hire individuals destined to succeed in a position because they possess the necessary personality and behavioral attributes that are required for success in a position);
  • dramatically reduce 'time-to-hire' and 'cost-to-hire' expenses;
  • it is quick, easy-to-use and affordable;
  • be accessed anytime, from anywhere in the world.
Performance Benchmarking begins with the creation of a position benchmark that is customized to an organization’s needs (e.g., hiring top performers or reducing turnover). Once a position benchmark is created, hiring managers can use PhD’s benchmarking technology to instantly determine the degree of
fit between any applicant and their custom benchmark. With this approach, managers can be more certain that the person(s) they wish to hire are best suited for the position before any offer of employment is made.

HR industry research suggests that organizations using interviews as their primary means of screening will typically retain 2 out of 3 hires over the course of one year. PHD research has shown that organizations can increase their hiring success rate significantly by incorporating performance benchmarking into their hiring practices. In one study for example, a large U.S automobile dealership that has used PHD’s performance benchmarking approach since 1999 has observed a dramatic 67% improvement in overall sales performance.

When organizations incorporate performance benchmarking into their hiring practices, they are able to raise the standard of excellence for employee performance and new applicant hiring. With more top performers on a team, employee performance and productivity can be taken to new levels. These new standards can,
in turn, be benchmarked and further improved upon over time. Organizations can, thus, continuously improve the performance of any team or department in their organization.

Furthermore, once organizations create benchmarks for various positions, they establish for themselves an objective, impartial system for succession planning. Any internal candidates for promotion can be matched to the appropriate benchmark and a manager would be able to identify those individuals with the best fit for the position.

In addition to its multiple applications and scientific precision, PHD Performance Benchmarking offers organizations a number of operational and technological benefits. As indicated above, the system is web-based which means that it is accessible to HR staff and any job applicants anytime, from any Internet-connected computer in the world. It can be set-up for any position in a matter of minutes and the assessment process takes, on average, 15 minutes for each participant. Percentage-Fit reports are also
available online immediately after applicants have finished their assessments. In addition, because the system has been designed for web-delivery, it is far more affordable to use than many of the more traditional employee selection and development services.

Dr. Martin Shoemaker is President of PHD. “Until now, we have provided the performance benchmarking service essentially off-line. With our new web-based delivery system, we are poised to offer new and existing clients 24/7 access to the system, greater usability and automated reporting. We are certain that our new online system and improved efficiencies will give many of our clients one more reason never to hire without a PHD benchmark.”“We are extremely excited to announce the launch of our one-of-a-kind online Performance Benchmarking system. More than ever before, this new delivery platform will provide clients
with anytime, anywhere access to our customized, scientific benchmarking technology.This fact also provides PHD with the ability to service the global business community. We look forward to introducing the benefits of Performance Benchmarking to organizations outside of North America,” said PHD Director of Business Development and Marketing, Jason M. Clark.

Precision Human Development (PHD) is the leading provider of online Performance Benchmarking in Canada and the United States.
